Det. William Moreland and Food Deserts

Since I haven't posted enough about fresh food on this blog...

Wendell Pierce, who we know as Detective William Moreland from The Wire, has recently opened a chain of convenience stores in lower income areas of in New Orleans. He also opened a full service grocery store in a local New Orleans food desert. Not only does this grocery store offer fresh food to local residents, it also offers the customers free rides home if they spend over $50! Pierce explained that these convenience and grocery stores can:
              - promote accessibility to fresh food
              - help create jobs for the area
              - educate the neighborhood on how to eat healthy
              - show other cities a successful model to overcome food deserts

Do you think these convenience and grocery stores will have this type of impact on the community?
